Katsuhiro Otomo is a Japanese manga artist, screenwriter, animator and film director. His most notable works are Domu, Metropolis, Steamboy but he is best known as the creator of Akira. One of the most influential artists working in manga and anime today, he started his professional career in the late 1970’s and has been awarded several accolades including being inducted into the Eisner Hall of Fame, the Windsor McKay award at the Annies as well as the Purple Medal of Honor from the Japanese government. It’s not just his distinctive style of drawing, including being considered the first Manga artist to accurately portray Japanese faces and his incredible and intricate vehicle designs that make him so well regarded but it's also his brilliant storytelling and directing abilities too. We are honored to present to him this year The 2022 Concept Art Awards Lifetime Achievement.
To present Otomo’s lifetime achievement award is Peter Han.
The Concept Art Association's 2022 Concept Art Awards ceremony, Presented by LightBox Expo - hosted by Krystina Arielle (Star Wars: The High Republic) and Imani Hakim (Mythic Quest). The event is the first of its kind to recognize and bring increased awareness of the role of concept artists throughout the world of movies, television, animation, and games. The annual Concept Art Awards Show showcases and recognizes these behind-the-scenes individuals working in entertainment concept art.
