This video is so special to me. Damacy is one of the games of my childhood, and with the re-release of Reroll on PS4, now people can share their streams and videos more easily with the world.
Q: What am I looking at?
A: This is the 'hardest' level of Katamari, Taurus, where the first cow-related object you roll up will end the level. I'm the little green dude (The Prince) and my father (The King) destroyed all the stars in the sky so we're rolling up new ones with our sticky ball (Katamari).
Q: Why are you showcasing this level?
A: Ash and I were collecting every item in Katamari, and the Holy Cow was the last one we needed. I'd sunk about 3-4 hours into Taurus attempts before this, interspersed between Make a Star 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, Moon, Ursa Major, and Gemini.
Q: Okay, but you pick up the things and then the big cow, right?
A: Basically everywhere I'm NOT going has some item that would end the level if I picked it up.
Around the 5m69cm0mm mark, you can tell I'm having a hell of a time finding items to pick up - this is because I'm not big enough for the trees, telephone poles, cars, rocks, etc. Everything until that point is something I'd basically routed, and I stalled in the small outlet mall corner until the cars came by, one by one.
When I hit 6m90cm2mm, I figured there would be enough stuff on the farm hilltop to collect that I would hit my eventual goal, 7m8cm8mm to be able to roll up the Holy Cow. There was not, because in basically every level there's big rocks, mushrooms, etc. that are all replaced by cows here.
Q: Why are things running into you/flipping/sliding?
A: When something 'alive' sees you're near its size and it sees you as either interesting or a threat, it will display an exclamation mark and run towards you, knocking you around. If you're bigger than it, it will run away. Some items (cars, cows, etc.) are on a cycle, meaning that they will move until they hit you. If you're big enough, they will stop and shake in place.
When something is moving and you're JUST big enough to pick it up, sometimes it will tumble as you hit it, requiring you to go find it again and pick it up. This is the case with the Holy Cow.
I never finished the original Katamari, even though it's one of my favorite games of all time, so achieving the Platinum was a big deal for me - like putting a capstone on one of my childhood memories.
