Karen de la Vega-Hernández has developed a novel reagent and skeletal editing strategy that enables the structural and functional diversification of drug molecules at late stages. This breakthrough accelerates drug discovery, allowing rapid and sustainable modification of molecular cores to create new and improved therapeutic candidates.
Karen de la Vega-Hernández is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow at the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ), Spain. She earned her PhD at Sorbonne University and has worked across radical chemistry, supramolecular catalysis, and photochemistry. She now focuses on rethinking how to build better medicines to drive innovation in drug design and synthesis. In 2025, she was named a CAS Future Leader.
