In 2015 the Kansas State Department of Education created the Kansans Can School Redesign model that allows school districts the flexibility to change the structure and modalities of teaching to fit the needs of their students and communities. In 2021 KSDE and Kansas State University worked together to document the journey of six different school districts undergoing redesign. Dighton’s redesign journey is centered on project-based learning, flexible scheduling, and work study programs. Highlighted in their story is a unique residential maintenance class for students to learn how to fix common home repair/maintenance needs.
