🌍 “Fund Resilience, Not Disasters” — Message from Kamal Kishore, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction.

As the world marks the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction 2025 (13 October), the UN is calling for bold investment in prevention and resilience.

Over the past decade, global disaster deaths have been cut in half — but economic losses continue to rise, now costing an estimated $2.3 trillion each year. To reverse this trend, countries must increase funding for disaster risk reduction (DRR) and ensure all development is risk-informed.

By financing resilience today, we can prevent tomorrow’s disasters. Every dollar invested in prevention saves lives, livelihoods, and up to 15 times the cost of recovery.

💡 Disasters are not natural — they are preventable.
Let’s act now to build a safer, more sustainable future for all.
