I have finally done it, I took the time to set up my camera and microphone to record myself playing a video game song on guitar! The first song I am posting is Kaepora Gaebora from the Legend of Zelda Ocarina of time. This was one of the songs I was arbitrarily practicing and I eventually was able to play the lead part quite well so I thought it would be easy to play this and learn the secondary parts. Doing the actual setup of the recording was a bit of a pain, first I tried to use my laptop because I thought I needed portability to have the best sound. Thankfully, I was able to use my desktop and get the same quality in the audio. The laptop's camera was also not going to cut it. My USB camera on my desktop is a simple PlayStation Eye camera so the video format is not the best, but I was glad it captured the video in more than 30 fps.
Learning the other parts of the song was not too bad, the bass, pizzicato, and accompaniment parts I was able to learn. The toughest part was the harp part that plays at the end of the second part of the song. I was unable to replicate the timing as well as the notes. I just tried a different method. This appears when the electric guitar first appears. In my music editor I was unable to figure out how to create a drum track so I decided to try making some percussion on the classical guitar; I thought that came out alright. Other than that, I would say this song is somewhat beginner friendly.
I decided to cover this song with both classical and electric guitars because I felt this song suited the vibe of a classical guitar, however, I also enjoy playing the electric guitar. I thought it would be interesting to include both together and see how that sounds.
The editing part took a while to edit. I wanted to show all the parts of the guitar. I have seen other guitar cover videos where the musician only shows one guitar being played per section. Many guitars may be played but you can not see all of them at once! I thought showing all the parts would be cool since you can look at one part and rewatch the video to see another part. I tried to do cool things with the placement of the videos so I hope it does not look disorienting!
In hindsight, I could have found an easier song to cover since this cover took quite a while to record and edit! Although I found the song to be very fun to play which is what matters at the end of the day.
I hope you enjoyed my little explanation of the history of this and I hope you enjoyed the video! I will do my best to make the time to create another cover!
