JWST has just revealed one of the most extraordinary star systems ever photographed. It’s called Apep, and is a triple system with two Wolf–Rayet stars wrapped in four enormous spirals of dust. These shells record centuries of violent wind collisions, close stellar encounters, and even dust being carved apart by a third massive star.
