Mercedes looked very strong in Zandvoort and hadn’t it been for the Checo’s spin at the last Turn, at least one of their cars would’ve been in the front row. We’ve seen a Red Bull that isn’t as dominating as we saw in Spa, which was hinted at by the Austrian team from the start of this weekend, and that was something that kept us on our toes throughout Saturday’s qualifying sessions. On top of that, Mercedes’ pace was truly encouraging and we thought that they could genuinely fight for a good finish. At one point during the race, Mercedes even had the win in their hands because they started on medium compound tyres and when they changed to the hard compound, they were much faster and could have finished the race on those tyres. However, destiny and a call to not pit Hamilton under the safety car left the 7-time world champion like a sitting duck to Verstappen, Russell, and Leclerc, as he finished P4.
