Back again, where Amber and Laura discuss something new this week, Murderbot, and the first two episodes on Apple Tv. A security android known as a SecUnit has been protecting miners on Aratake Station, secretly hacking its own code to disable its obedience module and gain autonomy, thus becoming “Murderbot.” Despite its newfound freedom, Murderbot stays with the Company, begrudgingly assigned to help a group of idealistic scientists from the Preservation Alliance. As a giant sandworm attacks their mining site, Murderbot steps up, rescues the team, and even shows its face to comfort a traumatized human, breaking protocol. This act raises suspicions about its behavior, but the team chooses not to report it, fearing corporate retaliation and recognizing they need its protection.

Murderbot is an American science fiction action comedy television series created by Paul Weitz and Chris Weitz for Apple TV+. It is based on the book series The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells, who serves as a consulting producer. The series stars Alexander Skarsgård as the titular character. It premiered on May 16, 2025. A security android struggles with emotions and free will while balancing dangerous missions and desire for isolation, evading detection of its self-hacking as it finds its place. A partly-human security cyborg that privately calls itself Murderbot must hide its ability for free thought whilst completing dangerous assignments and is simultaneously drawn to humans and appalled at their weakness.
