When there was no king in Israel, the nation halted between obedience to God followed by times of peace and disobedience followed by times of judgment and oppression exercised upon them by their enemies until the Lord sent them deliverers. The Christian must not stagger between obeying and not obeying God but should always abide in obedience to the word of the Lord and so reap the fruitfulness thereof.
