A military judge ruled Friday that alleged 9/11 mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed’s 2007 FBI confession is inadmissible, finding it was not voluntary after CIA coercion and that agents failed to give him key rights. Prosecutors called those statements critical evidence. The case is already set for a 2028 trial.
USAID’s inspector general has referred more than 100 current and former UNRWA staff to the State Department over alleged Hamas ties and/or roles in the Oct. 7 attacks. New debarment proposals include former teachers accused of kidnapping and holding hostages.
Ahead of the 25th anniversary of 9/11, CBC circulated guidance telling journalists not to call the attacks “terrorist attacks,” citing longstanding policy that the words are too loaded. Critics say that erases the nature of the massacre. CBC says the terms should be attributed, not used as the network’s own label.
The Kremlin says peace talks are on a “deep pause” as Russian forces press the eastern front. Kyiv officials say technical talks could return as soon as September, with the U.S. still in the mix. No ceasefire is in sight.
