Earlier this month, we received a call a man was clinging to a light pole on the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway bridge. He was about to take his own life. Officer Wright with our Behavioral Crisis Response Unit was the first officer to arrive on scene. He was able to connect with the man, eventually leading to the man stepping over the guardrail to safety.
He is now safe and we were able to connect him with resources so he can receive support.

Officers in our Behavioral Crisis Response Unit, like Officer Wright, are expertly trained to handle situations like this. We’re grateful Officer Wright happened to be in the (W)right place at the (W)right time, allowing him to be first on scene. We also couldn’t have done this without the help of the Neptune Beach Police Department directing traffic away from the area so Officer Wright and the man could talk.
