We are extremely proud to announce our very own Corrections Officer Obbie Johnson has been recognized as the 2026 Corrections Officer of the Year by the Florida Sheriffs Association. He is honored as an officer who displays unparalleled courage, commitment, and sacrifice in the line of duty.
On Thursday, May 1, 2025, an inmate told Corrections Officer Johnson a woman had jumped off a bridge near the jail. Corrections Officer Johnson believed the inmate and rushed outside to find the woman in Hogans Creek face down.
Without hesitation or regard for his own safety, Corrections Officer Johnson went into the water to save the woman. He was able to pull her out and perform CPR until emergency medical personnel arrived. The woman, thanks to Corrections Officer Johnson’s quick actions, survived.
Corrections Officer Johnson’s impact goes beyond his actions on this day. His supervisors describe him as a professional and kind officer who goes above and beyond to serve the inmates every day.
We will recognize Corrections Officer Johnson as our agency’s Corrections Officer of the Year next month.
