“J’Prends Ma Place !”: A Survey by and for 2S/LGBTQIA+ Youth on Mental Health, Substance Use and Resilience

The Jeunes chercheurs.e.s queer program is a French and Montreal-specific adaptation of the CBRC Investigaytors program. This participatory and community-based capacity-building and knowledge transfer program is geared towards 2S/LGBTQIA+ youth who are interested in the world of research. Together, they elaborated and conducted J’prends ma place !, a survey to better understand mental health, substance use and resiliency among 2S/LGBTQIA+ youth aged 15-24 living in Canada. The survey was available online and shared on social media platforms (Instagram and Facebook) from November 2021 to January 2022. It was completed by a total of 3,668 participants. Queer youth researchers conducted individual and group analyses on a variety of topics such as conversion therapy, cannabis use, activism, and the experiences of non-binary youth. The results will be used to advocate for better mental health services for 2S/LGBTQIA+ youth. During this panel, the youth researchers will present the results of the "J’prends ma place !" survey to discuss actions to improve the mental health of 2S/LGBTQIA+ youth in Canada.
