Samsung Galaxy S26 Camera: Which Image Format Is Best for You? Compare JPEG, RAW and HEIF Settings
Which image format should you use when capturing photos on the Samsung Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26 Plus, and Galaxy S26 Ultra? This video explains the practical differences between JPEG, RAW, and HEIF so you can choose the right format for your photography needs.

JPEG is usually the best choice for everyday photography, quick sharing, social media, websites, messaging apps, and broad device compatibility. JPEG files are processed by the camera, relatively easy to view, and widely supported.

HEIF, also known as a high-efficiency image format, can reduce file size compared with traditional JPEG while maintaining good image quality. It can be useful when saving storage space is important, but compatibility with older devices, applications, and websites may not be as broad as JPEG.

RAW is designed for advanced and professional editing. RAW files retain substantially more original image information and give you greater flexibility when adjusting exposure, highlights, shadows, white balance, colors, and other settings during post-processing. RAW files are larger and require compatible editing software.

If your priority is easy sharing and compatibility, choose JPEG. If your priority is saving storage while using compatible devices and apps, HEIF can be useful. If your priority is maximum editing flexibility, choose RAW. You can also use RAW and JPEG together when you want an editable original plus a convenient shareable version.

On the Galaxy S26 series, the available format options can depend on the camera mode. Regular Photo mode has its own photo-format settings, while Pro mode provides a separate Pro mode picture format option. After changing a setting, capture a test photo and check the saved file format.

Before choosing RAW regularly, make sure you have enough storage because RAW files can be significantly larger. For important photography, keep original files backed up and avoid deleting them until your editing and backup workflow is complete.

The exact settings and menu names may vary depending on the Galaxy S26 series software version, camera mode, and device configuration.
