For Josh Pyke, Kingdom Within represents more than another addition to an already impressive catalogue. His eighth studio album marks a new chapter of independence and creative freedom, and Pyke is emphatic that it is his finest body of work to date. The album is his first independent release since 2004, but perhaps more significantly, it represents a change in the way he approached making music, he tells Australian Musician’s Greg Phillips
A major part of that change was handing production duties to long-time friend and collaborator Chris Collins. Although Collins had been part of Pyke's musical world for more than two decades, initially as a guitar tech and later as a band member, the pair had never worked together in this capacity. Pyke admits relinquishing control was initially daunting, but his longstanding trust in Collins' musical sensibilities and understanding of his work made the leap possible.
