In this next instalment in my series on punk drummers, I'm talking about the drummer I consider the best of them all—and one of my biggest influences—the mighty Josh Freese!
Josh has drummed for just about everybody, but I'm the biggest fan of his work with SoCal punk legends The Vandals.
I've been a fan of The Vandals since 2000, and when we did our first full Warped Tour in 2001, we watched them play every day. Watching Josh every afternoon was a drumming education, and his playing had a massive impact on me.
I've been friends with the Vandals for over 20 years now, and when Josh is off being Drummer to the Stars—and when everyone else is busy—I sometimes get the call to fill in.
In this video, I'll talk about why Josh's playing had such an impact on me, some of my favourite Vandals records and drum parts, and then I'll jump behind the kit and bang out one of my favourite Vandals songs: Euro-Barge!
