JORVIK Viking Centre first opened its doors to the public on 14th April 1984. To mark JORVIK’s 40th anniversary, York Archaeology recorded interviews with members of the original project team in 2023 and 2024.
This short film, first screened at the 2025 JORVIK Viking Festival, features excerpts from those interviews combined with newly digitised archive material, to tell the story of how this ground-breaking attraction came to be.
