Jones Beach State Park, New York, or more commonly known as Jones Beach is located on the south shore of Long Island in New York. Less than 20 miles from New York City, Jones Beach was the first major public project that was free from developments or private clubs. Created by Robert Moses, Jones Beach opened to the public on August 4, 1929. In order to create Jones Beach State Park, which was once only two feet above sea level, dredgers brought sand from the bay bottom (now the State Boat Channel), to raise the elevation of the barrier islands by 14 feet above sea level. In order to make Jones Beach, known as a "great people's park" another issue had to be tackled — the wind. When the wind picked up, sand would blow horribly, making the island anything but a recreational getaway. Landscape architects came up with the idea of beach grass, whose roots grow sideways and help support the dunes, creating a barrier to the wind. It took thousands of men to plant this beach grass, and now visitors can now swim in the ocean, enjoy a stroll the boardwalk, fish, and get a bite to eat at one of the many concession stands.

Today, not far from bustling New York City, Jones Beach beachgoers have 6.5 miles of beautiful beach, and more than 2,400-acres of maritime environment to enjoy including. Beachgoers to this Long Island escape can also enjoy the WildPlay Adventure Park, play miniature golf, shuffleboard, basketball, corn hole, paddle tennis, table tennis, pickleball, bike, sunbathe, surf, swim in the pool, play in the splashpad, and attend concerts at Northwell Health Theatre or the Bethpage Air Show. Additionally, visitors can learn about marine ecology at the Jones Beach Energy & Nature Center.
