I love to dream BIG because you never know what you are going to wake up to. On the morning of Tuesday, February 20th 2024, I saw on social media that Oprah Winfrey was going to receive the GLAAD Vanguard Award! I immediately went online to look for tickets to attend the award ceremony but once I added up the cost of the tickets plus the flights & hotel, I knew it wasn’t possible this year. I’ve always hoped to attend the GLAAD Awards, but I told myself that this wasn’t our time. I figured one day, when the moment is right, it will be our time. Then, I tried to let it go (even though I still really wanted to be there). Well... about 10 hours later, I received an unexpected phone call and it was a moment I will never forget. We tried to document as much as we could to remember this incredible journey and take you all with us! Watching this behind the scenes video reminds me that anything is possible if you hold on to your dreams. What an honor and full circle moment it was for me to be part of Oprah’s special day 20 years after she made my dream come true. I truly hope that whatever your dream is, you will never give up and always believe in yourself.
I also want to thank Joseph for sending me some incredibly special footage of Oprah with Patrick and me that I will treasure forever. You are a master at what you do! A special thank you to Chelsea for guiding us on this journey with so much kindness and love. You truly have a special place in my heart. Oprah, my life (and the lives of countless others) is simply better with you in it. You have given me so many wonderful gifts that continue to expand my life, but the gift of you teaching me to be my authentic self is a lesson I will always continue to pay forward. Mom, you are the best guardian angel and having you by my side and in my light is what keeps me moving forward. I love you.
