Members of the Raise the Roof campaign group staged a protest outside the Department of Housing on July 26 to demand urgent action on the housing crisis. The group said any new Government housing plan must prioritise delivery of affordable homes to buy and rent through increased investment in a major State-led housing programme, greater security for tenants, reserving public land exclusively for public housing and establishing a new Right to Housing.
Raise the Roof is planning a national demonstration on housing for Saturday, October 2, the public health situation allowing.
Participating in the July 26 event were representatives of: Siptu, Forsa, ICTU, National Women’s Council, Inner City Helping Homeless, Irish Traveller Movement, Union of Students in Ireland, Sinn Fein, the Labour Party, Social Democrats, People before Profit, Simon Community, National Homeless & Housing Coalition, Dublin Council of Trade Unions.
