After defeating Katara Vala, the cameras are revealed and the entire temple adventure turns out to be the set of Johnny's fictional movie Temple of Katara Vala. The director calls the scene, the crew celebrates the end of filming, and Johnny Cage returns to being himself.
The sequence opens Johnny Cage's chapter in Mortal Kombat 1 (2023) and reveals that his "Illinois Johnny" adventure was an elaborate movie production. Temple of Katara Vala is an in-universe Johnny Cage film heavily inspired by the Indiana Jones movies.
