Remembering Johnnie Walker, one of the most recognisable and much-loved voices in British radio.
From the pirate-radio days of Radio Caroline in the 1960s to BBC Radio 1 and later BBC Radio 2, Johnnie entertained generations of listeners with his relaxed style, unmistakable voice and genuine love of music.
He became especially well known for Sounds of the 70s and The Rock Show. Away from the microphone, Johnnie faced serious health problems with remarkable determination, supported throughout by his devoted wife Tiggy.
Johnnie retired from broadcasting in October 2024 and sadly passed away on 31 December 2024, aged 79.
