John Amos’ daughter, Shannon, is speaking out following the news of his passing. In an emotional post on Instagram Oct. 1, Shannon penned a tribute to her father and revealed that their family learned about his death through the media, despite him passing more than a month earlier. “I am without words…our family has received the heartbreaking news that my Dad, John Allen Amos, Jr., transitioned on August 21st. We are devastated and left with many questions about how this happened 45 days ago, learning about it through the media like so many of you,” the 58-year-old wrote, adding, “This should be a time of honoring and celebrating his life, yet we are struggling to navigate the wave of emotions and uncertainties surrounding his passing. Still, there is some semblance of peace in knowing my father is finally free.” Shannon concluded her post by acknowledging the outpouring of love and support, which she said she and her family appreciate, before asking everyone to continue to hold their family in thoughts and prayers. News broke of the actor’s passing on Oct. 1 after his son, Kelly Christopher "K.C." Amos, released a statement and announced that the cause of death was attributed to “natural causes.” The “Roots” and “Good Times” star was 84 years old.
