On Monday, the 12th of July, 2021, we suddenly lost one of Singapore's champions of its classical music scene, Adrian Tan. He was a conductor, a mentor and a friend who drew respect from all those around him, including his time as a naval officer in the Republic of Singapore Navy.
He was direct and upfront but in a thoughtful manner, and I believe all of us who have worked with Adrian will agree that his honesty and no-nonsense attitude was something that we all admired.
Adrian fought incredibly hard for the local music scene and the musicians that inhabit it. May his work continue to inspire others to do the same. His sudden departure is heartbreaking for many of us, and he will be dearly missed by all.
I join my friends Theophilus Tan and Julian Lee in putting together this short chorale prelude by Bach in his memory. May his soul rest in peace.
