Joel Kim Booster is a Chicago-bred Los Angeles-based stand-up comedian, writer, and actor who has been named one of The Queer Young Comics Redefining American Humor by the New York Times. He made the TIME100 Next list as well as the THR's 50 Most Influential People in Comedy in 2022. He is best known for writing and starring in Searchlight Pictures’ Fire Island which went on to land him two Emmy nominations along with a “Best First Screenplay” nom at the Independent Spirit Awards. The multi-hyphenate has also been seen starring opposite Maya Rudolph in the Apple TV+ comedy series Loot. His first hour-long comedy special, Joel Kim Booster: Psychosexual, exploring his experiences and observations as a gay Asian American male with commentary on identity, sexuality, cultural expectations, and more. The special was nominated for a Critics Choice Award and named one of the best comedy specials of 2022 by Variety. He also appears in Freeform’s Chrissy & Dave Dine Out, with Chrissy Teigen and David Chang.
Joel's other TV and film credits include Industry, Glamorous, Sunnyside, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Shrill, Search Party, History of the World Part II, BoJack Horseman, Big Mouth, The Week Of, American Dad, Bob’s Burgers and Viper Club. He was a series regular voice on the HBO MAX animated program Santa Inc. and can be seen in the film Unplugging. In 2017, Joel recorded a stand-up special for Comedy Central's The Half-Hour and a full-length stand-up album called Model Minority. He has appeared on Conan, The Late Late Show with James Corden, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, The Kelly Clarkson Show, Netflix's The Fix, Comedy Central's The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail, This Is Not Happening and @midnight, Logo's Comedy Cabaret, and truTV's Comedy Knockout. His writing credits include Billy on the Street, Big Mouth, The Other Two, and the pilot for Comedy Central's Problematic with Moshe Kasher.
