#3 from 'Album', Op.1 (1904)
-----------------------------------
Phillip Sear plays an 'albumleaf' by the short-lived Catalan composer Joan Bridgman d'Eguinoa (1880–1908).
-----------------------------------
Born in Tarragona (and possibly related to the Tarragona poet and literary critic Joan Oliva i Bridgman (1877–1914)), Bridgman initially followed a career in engineering, which he left to study music in Barcelona and abroad. In 1904, he gave a concert in Barcelona with exclusively his own works, which were very well received by the public and musicians present. Later, he studied elsewhere in Europe, and took part in a concert in England, where he obtained a job teaching music at St. Anthony’s School, a prominent Catholic preparatory academy founded in Eastbourne in 1898 by the Patton family. Bridgman died in Eastbourne in 1908. His works include a Scherzo (violin and piano); Gavotte (violin and piano), Sonata (violin and piano), Piano Trio; String quartet; Overture, for orchestra; and a Solemn Mass, for voices and orchestra.

This is a surprisingly serious piece for an albumleaf, a genre that tends to feature short, lighter pieces.
