Jimi Hendrix resting place performance by Billy Dawson:
So if it weren't for Hendrix and my Dad I wouldn't be the man in music I am today. We used to have bible studies at our house while we were growing up and my Dad would play worship songs and after he would switch it over to jamming some Jimi. I would come in the room with nothing but my Cookie Monster shoes on and have a bottle hanging out my mouth. I remember from that early of an age hearing Hendrix and loving it. He and my Dad were the reason I wanted to play guitar. The first time I heard "Voodoo Child" (Slight Return) I knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. The rest is history and I am so grateful that I was experienced. I have always wanted to visit Jimi's grave and Kim Bruna over at Muscular Dystrophy Association made that dream come true! I came up to Washington to raise money for MDA summer camps for kids and she said the grave site was right along the way to where we were going! So here's the story and I wouldn't believe it if I weren't there and neither would have Kim.
Story:
We pull up in grave yard and the day can't get any gloomier (is that even a word lol!) My heart is racing while I walk up to where the king of guitar lies in his eternal rest. I then look around and get teary eyed and laugh at the same time. Seeing all the lipstick kisses on Hendrix's cheeks on the stones made my day. I then pulled my guitar from the case, sit on a bench and start strumming "Little Wing" one of my all time favorite songs. I then start to sing and no joke the sun starts shining through the clouds and the sky becomes blue as the ocean. When I finish the song I get up and I realize that I’m sitting on the lyrics to "Little Wing!" I walk out to look up at the sky to see if Hendrix was peaking out from behind a cloud to give me a smile and a thumbs up and y'all there is a bald eagle flying in circles above the memorial!!! To say the least it was one of the coolest things I have ever got to do and am forever grateful for my Dad and Jimi! I know I will jam with him in Heaven one fine day!
