A router table, cross cut box, and cope and style fixture are three of the most important shop fixtures every woodworker should own. This one-week class will teach you how to make these three fixtures, which are the same ones that MASW uses. There's more! There will also be three surprise fixtures or hand tools that Doug has designed for you to make. Fine Woodworking magazine recently featured the router table, which features a perfect square pivotal fence system. You will need to bring your own insert to hold your router in place. The crosscut fixture will be large enough to crosscut 20" wide boards. It will fit your table saw and includes a clear safety shield. The cope and style fixture will be built to mount on either the router table or the shaper. It can cut both rails and styles on any size door. For more than 20 years, Doug Dale has been responsible for student affairs and maintenance at MASW. He once held the record for attending the most classes in one summer, 17. He completed his Masters and, with Zane Powell, taught his first class at the school in 2005 on Machine Maintenance, Jigs, and Fixtures. Currently, Doug tests tools for Fine Woodworking magazine. Aside from teaching (or driving more than 100 miles one way to and from the school), he makes furniture and cabinets in his shop and dabbles in restoration work. Through his wit and enthusiasm, he has motivated and inspired thousands of students. As part of the Consumer Woodworking Expo, Doug has lectured nationally.
