if you're going to use a character's Jewishness as a major plot point (looking at you, #DowntonAbbey ) then the least you can do is flesh out their Jewish identity and show it on screen. A character shouldn't be reduced only to being Jewish with no other personality or story, yes, but we can do better than using the word "shiksa" once a season.
I find it frustrating that historical shows and movies will sometimes tell you that a character is Jewish, but then don't show or explore the character's Jewish identity at all. What's the point-- other than to tokenize Jews and win diversity points? If you're going to make a character Jewish, then actually make them Jewish instead of telling without showing.
