Hosted at Biola University on October 7–9, the Ablaze Conference featured plenary speakers, workshops, worship and a special reunion concert with musical artists from the Jesus People Movement.
Lester Ruth is a research professor of Christian Worship at Duke Divinity School in Durham, NC. He came to this position after teaching at Asbury Theological Seminary and Yale Divinity School. Prior to teaching, he served several pastoral appointments in the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. His doctorate in worship history is from the University of Notre Dame. His recent publications have focused on Contemporary Praise and Worship and include Flow: The Ancient Way to Do Contemporary Worship, essays on the history of contemporary praise and worship (with Lim Swee Hong), Lovin’ On Jesus: A Concise History of Contemporary Worship, and (with Lim Swee Hong) the forthcoming A History of Contemporary Praise and Worship: Understanding the Ideas that Reshaped the Protestant Church. Most of his publications have dealt either with worship in the patristic period or worship in American Evangelicalism. He remains dedicated to exploring how classic worship can renew the church today.

Rev. Chris Adams, PhD, is a third-generation pastors kid, ordained minister, clinical psychologist, and certified wellbeing and leadership coach. He has served in pastoral care and counseling roles in a large congregation and a large Christian university. He specializes in the wellbeing of ministerial students, clergy, and their families. Chris currently serves as Professor, Chaplain, and Executive Director of the Mental Health and the Church initiative at Rosemead Graduate School of Psychology, Biola University. Chris teaches pastoral care and counseling, Christian leadership formation, and psychology and Christianity integration courses for Rosemead and several seminaries. Chris is a consultant to numerous denominations and seminaries in the areas of clergy candidate formative evaluation, clergy health and flourishing, and pastoral leadership formation. He is the lead researcher for the Flourishing in Ministry project, and is currently participating as a consultant and researcher with the Duke Clergy Health Initiative. Chris is a frequent lecturer at seminaries, retreats, and conferences. He was awarded the Archibald D. Hart Counseling Pioneer Award for excellence in Research and Scholarship in Training and Educating the Next Generation of Leaders in Mental Health and Caring for Others in 2023.

Kyle Strobel (Ph.D. University of Aberdeen) is a systematic theologian who teaches spiritual theology for Talbot’s Institute for Spiritual Formation and Spiritual Formation Focus programs. His areas of interest include systematic theology, Jonathan Edwards, spiritual formation and prayer. He writes both popular and academic books and articles, and is on the preaching team at Redeemer Church, La Mirada. Kyle and his wife have lived in Scotland, Connecticut, Colorado and Arizona before settling down in Southern California, and they have two young children.
