When a person becomes a Christian, it changes their heart. And one of the first things you have is you have this new heart so that your obedience to God isn't something external. It's not like you're keeping a bunch of rules. What happens is it's internal written on your heart so that you honor God from the heart. This is the deadly thing about legalism. When you reduce service of God to rules, and rules can have their place. But let's just be very careful that we don't make the tools of discipleship, the rules of discipleship, and we find our joy in just doing things externally instead of doing things from the heart. Everything flows from the heart. Everything's got to come out of the heart. He gives you a new heart so you can serve him from the heart. And when you have that heart relationship with the Lord, all of the sudden, not only are you serving him from the heart, but now you have a confidence in your heart to go to the Lord.
