The Bible describes Jerusalem in three stages: today’s city, the future millennial capital where Christ will reign after His return, and finally the New Jerusalem that descends from heaven after God’s plan for humanity is complete. The New Jerusalem represents the fulfillment of God’s promises, when He dwells with His transformed people forever and death, sorrow, and pain are no more.
