Unitarian Christian Alliance | Jerry Wierwille - Intertextuality and Interpretation of Hebrews 1 @UnitarianChristianAlliance | Uploaded June 2022 | Updated October 2024, 17 hours ago.
In this presentation from the 2021 UCA conference, Dr. Jerry Wierwille takes us through the first chapter of Hebrews, to examine whether it is best read as teaching the pre-existence of Jesus.
He argues that Hebrews 1:5-13 is best viewed in connection within the context of chapter 2, and particularly in light of the author's use of Psalm 8 as the climax of his argument concerning the acquired superior role and status of Christ as the exalted and enthroned Son.
He concludes that the authors meaning when he speaks of Christ as creator in verse 10 of chapter 1, is not to insinuate his personal preexistence and possession of ultimate power in the universe, but to prove that he is the one in whom God chose for his creative wisdom to dwell.
