often feels scared
of being in love
because she’s afraid of hurting
if things fall apart,
she’s afraid of not
being with the person
she’s fought so hard to be with,
she’s afraid of being let down,
she’s afraid of not being chosen
she’s afraid of being abandoned
she’s terrified of
things she has no control over,
but then she looks deep within herself
and finds solace,
she finds peace within her self, within her mind,
she thinks back to all the times she’s overcome pain in the past,
pain that attempted to color her life completely,
pain that slowly eased over time,
night after night of uncertainty trying to convince her that all her efforts were futile,
pain that eased over time,
pain that felt like the end of the world,
pain that felt like the end,
she did that, all alone,
by sitting down with the pain and trying to work through it the best she could,
she broke into a sobbing mess at night and picked up the pieces in the morning,
she made her friends laugh on the mornings she didn’t want to get out of bed,
she left her sadness in a heap on her bed before she left the house,
she is resilient, she is brave, she is turning into the kind of person she’s always wanted to be,
she looks at herself in the mirror, to see the woman she has become,
she smiles at her reflection and simply says: i got you
because she always did and always will, no matter what,
no matter who hurts her, no matter who leaves
