Jennifer is a proud Aboriginal woman, environmental engineer, researcher and lecturer for the School of Engineering and Built Environment at Griffith University and fosters diversity and inclusivity through programs to overcome the stigma around STEM careers and broaden the scope of representation in Queensland’s STEM industries.
Jennifer promotes STEM by showing how it can be fun and meaningful, and finds playful ways to engage students through gamification, simulations of real-life scenarios, creative thought experiments and demonstrations. She strives for STEM to be seen in different ways, and how different methods and perspectives can be used to solve problems.
Jennifer also encourages students to engage with different perspectives by embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Perspectives in engineering and emphasises the importance of valuing Indigenous knowledges and perspectives alongside scientific knowledge.
