Great back story to this great championship distance battle of undefeated fighters, with Fenech finally getting a chance to fight the thriving Kronk Gym's best little guy, who had won Olympic Gold against the fighter who had eliminated Fenech from the Games.
Jeff Fenech faced a battle with the scales beforehand, with the late great Emmanuel Steward not satisfied that Fenech actually made the weight!
It's classic Fenech early, but McCrory, not known as a hitter or an inside fighter, nonetheless stands shoulder to shoulder with Fenech for much of the bout and buzzes Fenech very badly in the 6th round. Fenech shows a champion's resolve as he gets his second wind, living up to his 'Marrickville Mauler' moniker once again as he batters McCrory down the stretch.
