While Jeff Coffin is probably best known as the regular saxophone player for the #DaveMatthewsBand, he is also a music teacher and clinician. This video offers up more than seven minutes of a musically challenging, creative and technically impressive solo saxophone cadenza at the end of his guest appearance with the Lamar College Big Band at the Texas Music Educators Association festival on February 7, 2024. The band has been under the direction of Rick Condit for many years, Rick is retiring this year after a long career in performance and education.
Give this a full watch, Jeff does some very unique things with the saxophone that you've probably not seen before, his understanding and appreciation of his saxophone lineage and its history is ovious in this performance. I've known Jeff for nearly 40 years, and he continues to work hard and get better year after year. Well done my friend!
