‘forteresse’ is a prelude to the first act, setting the mood for the whole album. Referring to Arcade Fire’s oniric utopia in No Cars Go, the piece reenacts that implacably lonely moment « between the click of the light and the start of the dream. » The fortress is our pillow, our bed, our house, our city where we safely rest at night, allowing our mind to ramble, floating between loose consciousness and Id, darkness and lucid dream.

'forteresse' est un prélude, d'où se déploie l'atmosphère du premier acte et de l’album tout entier. Se référant à l’onirique utopie de No Cars Go, la pièce rappelle cet inéluctable moment de solitude, « between the click of the light and the start of the dream » (Arcade Fire). La forteresse, c'est notre oreiller, notre lit, notre maison, notre cité où nous reposons en sécurité, la nuit, laissant voguer notre esprit, flottant entre labile conscience et clairobscure, entre noirceur et Ça, dans l’ambigüité de cet entre-deux.
