Jazz, musique concrete, electronic music, ethnomusicology, movie soundtrack for the french nnouvelle Vague, ballet music, label manager, etc...
Over the span of close to 60 years, french composer Jean Schwarz has done it all, seen it all, met and worked with many titans of avant garde music, cinema, choregraphy, and ethnology.
Because he is one himself, despite his modesty.
In the past year was released an archival recording of a performance he did wiht jazz giants Don Cherry, Michel Portal, Jean François Jenny Clark, and Naná Vasconcelos, from 1977, the most incredible meeting of electroacoustic music with spiritual/free jazz. Jonathan FItoussi and the fine folks at Transversales Disques uncovered this legendary performance original master tape, and did the music world a huge solid!
This gave me the opportunity to discuss this event with him, and to cover his long career & memories from so many different fields, getting deeper into the mind and history of one of the XXth century music history most underrated figures, both an insider (amongstseveral institutions : his massive role in the GRM - the Groupe de Recherche Musicale - birthplace of electronic music) and an outsider (his own private label, Celia).
