Jean Harlow was one of the most popular actresses in Hollywood in the 1930s and well known for her portrayal of "bad girl" characters and a leading sex symbol at that time. Her first major role was in Howard Hughes "Hell's Angels" (1930) and was later followed by movies that built on her comedic talent such as "Red-Headed Woman" (1932), "Red Dust" (1932), "Dinner at Eight" (1933), "Reckless" (1935), and "Suzy" (1936). Much more than the sex symbol MGM cast her as, Jean Harlow left her mark on Hollywood with her sparkling, dedicated performance. Jean Harlow was also an actress who was crushed by Hollywood and by her family, who dominated her. She died at the age of 26 of kidney failure while filming "Saratoga" which became MGM's most successful film of 1937, as well as the highest-grossing film of Harlows career. Harlow, with the eternal nickname "platinum blonde", always imbued the cinema with her aura, and was a source of fascination for Marilyn Monroe throughout her tragic career.
