Jean Goldkette And His Orchestra play "Just Imagine", with vocals by Greta Woodson, who lived to the grand old age of 103 (she died May 22, 2009 - during her long life she was married five times and widowed four times).
This is take 3, one of two surviving unissued (on 78) takes - the other is take 5. The issued take is take 4. The main difference between the takes is the improvised counter melodies played by Sterling Bose under Woodson's vocals. Bose's trumpet playing here was considered by some in the past to be the work of Bix Beiderbecke, though it doesn't sound like Bix to me, even if Bose was obviously a disciple (they knew each other from working at the Arcadia Ballroom in St Louis). The side also features the great string bass playing of Steve Brown, who can be heard both bowing and slapping his bass. The excellent arrangement is probably by Harold Stokes.
