In this lesson, you’ll learn 3 guitar licks using diminished scale patterns to create modern, outside-sounding lines. The diminished scale is a symmetrical scale built from alternating half-steps and whole-steps, making it perfect for building unique patterns and jazzy ideas on the guitar.

This scale has been widely used by masters like John Scofield, Robben Ford, and John Coltrane, and in this video I’ll break down 3 licks I personally enjoy playing that sit comfortably on the fretboard.

These licks are ideal for adding modern jazz and blues sounds to your solos and improvisation. Whether you’re working in a blues, jazz, or fusion context, this lesson will help you explore the creative potential of the diminished scale and expand your guitar vocabulary.

By the end of this lesson, you’ll learn how to:

Apply diminished scale patterns on the guitar
Create outside-sounding jazz/blues licks
Build symmetrical lines for modern improvisation
Incorporate the style of Scofield, Ford, and Coltrane into your playing

Perfect for intermediate and advanced guitarists looking to explore jazz fusion, modern blues, and creative improvisation.
