This nice easy 2-5-1 lick, originally played on guitar, works nicely on the violin. You can play it all in first position or use second to make it a little more fluid (fewer string crossings).

Played in C the chords are Dm7 - G7 - CM7
Then it can be transposed into other keys by playing on higher or lower strings.
