Jay McCarrol is a film composer who has worked on musical scores for films like Nirvanna the Band the Show, The Kid Detective, BlackBerry and most recently Tony, a biopic about Anthony Bourdain directed by McCarrol's longtime collaborator Matt Johnson.

McCarrol sat down with CBC Music to discuss Tony, and break down the five steps to creating the perfect film score.
