"Jasmine Blossoms," an original tune by David Miller on bamboo flute.
This pentatonic scale-based melody has been in my head for the past couple of weeks, so I decided to record it first thing this morning. I used a bhangra styled accompaniment along with a droning tanpura sample- it's a sample from a real tanpura- notice how the pitch drifts upward towards the end of the track. (This drone sample, along with other very high quality tanpura samples can be downloaded at: www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~mrahaim/ . The other sounds are from my Yamaha keyboard (drums, vibes, etc...)
My pentatonic bamboo flute was made many years ago by Erik the Flute Maker (www.eriktheflutemaker.com) and is perhaps my favorite in my collection of musical instruments.
NOTE: Soundtrack optimized for systems utilizing subwoofer or systems capable of reproducing full spectrum sound. Also works well with a good pair of headphones! Anything but those cheezy laptop speakers! ;-)
I used my new Tascam DP-008 8trk recorder (just got it yesterday!!!) and a Neumann TLM 103 mic. No editing was done, save adding the droning tanpura sample, post production.
OK, enjoy. Oh, I should have stated, I'm not a flute player. So I'm not all that good, but enjoy anyway! ;-)
