ここは香川県小豆島・花寿波岩（はなすわじま）。
その名は「波の上に浮かぶ美しい島」に由来するといわれています。
先週公開した奄美大島の朝は、太平洋から太陽が昇る風景でした。
そして今回は、瀬戸内海から昇る朝日。
同じ太陽ですが、海が違うだけで、その表情もずいぶん異なります。
太平洋の雄大さに対して、瀬戸内海は穏やかで静かな印象があります。
けれど実際には潮の流れが非常に速く、場所によっては驚くほどの速さで海水が動いています。
一見穏やかに見える海ですが、その流れを知らなければ船が座礁してしまうこともあるほどです。
そんな瀬戸内海で、島と島の間から朝日が昇る光景は、知る人ぞ知る絶景。
ゆっくりと色を変える空と静かな海、そして島々のシルエットが重なり合い、瀬戸内ならではの朝を見せてくれます。
実はこの光景に魅せられ、翌日も再びこの場所を訪れました。

This is Hanasuwajima, a small island off Shodoshima in Kagawa Prefecture.
Its name is said to mean “a beautiful island floating upon the waves.”
Last week, I shared a sunrise over the Pacific Ocean on Amami Oshima.
This time, the sun rises over the Seto Inland Sea.
Although it is the same sun, the atmosphere feels quite different depending on the sea.
While the Pacific Ocean is vast and powerful, the Seto Inland Sea appears calm and gentle.
However, the tidal currents here are surprisingly strong, and in some places the water moves at remarkable speed.
The sea may look peaceful, but without understanding these currents, boats can easily run aground.
Here in the Seto Inland Sea, the sight of the sun rising between the islands is a hidden spectacle known mainly to those familiar with the area.
The slowly changing colors of the sky, the quiet sea, and the silhouettes of the islands come together to create a morning scene unique to the Seto Inland Sea.
In fact, I was so captivated by this view that I returned to the same place the following morning.
Yet even with the same sunrise between the islands, the morning revealed an entirely different expression.
