This video is a demonstration of Janice-Marie Johnson's bassline from 'Boogie Oogie Oogie', a hit song from the band's 1978 debut album. This song has an instantly recognisable bassline and is a lot of fun to play. In addition to playing bass, Johnson also co-wrote the song and sang lead vocals.
I recorded this line using a Fender 1972 Jazz bass strung with old Rotosound strings. The tone control was rolled off about halfway and I used both pickups. Chorus was added for the Intro section. The bass was recorded via a SansAmp Bass Driver DI, all controls set flat. A small amount of compression was added digitally.
