Happy New Year, it's that time again!
I had so much fun with my ZOIA-focused Jamuary series last year, and while I have opted to begin with another ZOIA patch as an homage to last year, you will find more instruments and gear this time around.
A little about this patch in particular:
After becoming familiar with ZOIA from last year's Jamuary, I had this idea of crafting an electronic performance with this pedal as a standalone unit on stage. Of course I can't just make a generative patch and have it running on its own, I want to create an interface where I am able to perform a patch in real time. Last year's "Vapor Kalimba" patch was probably the closest I got to a live performance patch (Shoutout to trikOsk here on YouTube who downloaded this patch and used it in one of their live performances! As part of a Christmas family talent show, I made this patch! One of my little brothers had been playing on the living room piano, and for a moment was playing this ostinato. This reminded me of an ambient movie score of sorts, and I began to make this patch on ZOIA to bring it to life. The ostinato runs continuously while a keyboard module allows me to play chords underneath it. Additionally, I have two more controls that help me build the performance dynamically, one bringing in a sparkly reverse delay on the ostinato and the other swelling the chord voice by opening a filter and bringing in a subtle reverberated pitch shifter.
This is definitely more of a proof of concept, though the performance at the talent show was quite well received! I look forward to creating more performance-oriented patches on the ZOIA!
