How to Replace Steering Wheel Controls on a Jaguar X-Type (Cruise & Radio Buttons)
Welcome back to the workshop! If the steering wheel buttons on your Jaguar X-Type are sticky, worn out, or completely unresponsive, you don't need to replace the whole wheel. In this DIY tutorial, I’ll walk you through the exact process to remove and replace the cruise control and radio control button clusters.
Since we are working right next to the driver's airbag, I'll show you the safe way to depower the system before we start popping off trim pieces and disconnecting harnesses.
In this video, we cover:
Safety First: How to properly disconnect the battery and wait for the airbag system to discharge.
Airbag Removal: Locating and releasing the retaining clips/screws holding the center pad.
Button Extraction: Carefully prying the old cruise control and radio switches from the steering wheel housing.
Electrical Connections: Unplugging the delicate ribbon cables and harnesses without damaging the clockspring.
Reassembly: Popping the new modules in, verifying the connections, and securely reinstalling the airbag.

Plastic auto trim removal tools (to prevent marring the steering wheel leather or plastic)
Small flathead screwdriver
10mm socket or wrench (for the battery terminal)
